Since 1999, the YMCA has hosted its annual Breakfast with Santa program providing a hot breakfast, a visit with Santa, and a toy to each child from area family shelters. In 2012, the program risked being overwhelmed; organizers learned that 90 new children had arrived at the shelters just before the event.
But never fear—the FirstPeeps are here! When CEO Bryan Brenner heard about the problem, he rallied employees to help. Within three hours, the employees had come together to offer up $5,000 to the YMCA for the next-day event.
“Every year, we do our Breakfast with Santa program, and we do it because we know it is the right thing to do,” said Karin Ogden, Executive Director of the Downtown YMCA. “Typically, we never cover expenses for the program. But this year, what a blessing, we were able to go into it with most of our costs covered. We can’t thank FirstPerson enough.”
Well it didn’t take much for FirstPeeps to get engaged with the YMCA and remain engaged. In 2013, FirstPerson signed on as the Premiere Sponsor for Breakfast with Santa. And has remained the premiere sponsor ever since. During the month of December, you’ll now find a Christmas tree in FirstPerson’s front lobby with donated toys underneath and volunteers serving on the planning committee and as elves for the event!
We couldn’t be more thrilled that Breakfast with Santa has more than doubled its impact on the Central Indiana community in two years! In 2014, Breakfast with Santa served 244 kids and more than 100 adults. All of which was made possible by 102 volunteers and 165 donated gifts.
