Indiana Passes Senate Bill 461 Impacting Your Health Plan

05/12/2011

On May 10th, 2011, Governor Mitch Daniels signed Senate Bill 461 into law. This bill reconciles the disparity between federal law under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) and Indiana state law regarding benefits for adult children. Previously, the age limit to receive benefits for adult children without taxation was 24 years of age. Now that age is 26, which mirrors federal law.

This change is retroactive back to September 23, 2010. Because this change was anticipated by many payroll vendor partners and employers, we estimate its impact to be small.
