Building a Health Strategy

Chances are your benefit programs aren't keeping you up at night this time of year, unless you are one of the few businesses that renew benefits during the summer months. What might be keeping you up at night are your employees: their health; their productivity; and their satisfaction and ability to find balance between home and work.
I believe successful employers are those with a strong, empowered workforce – they need to be healthy, balanced, clear, focused, and present.
Being an employer in today’s health care environment is complex. And managing all of the moving parts related to your benefit plan and wellness initiatives can feel overwhelming. A health strategy is an opportunity to organize the elements of your employee benefits and wellness programs into a single cohesive effort.
We like to think of health strategy as having four key components:
-
Benefit Plan Strategy – This component focuses on plan design, carrier and plan administrative partners, and overall plan offerings.
-
Financial Strategy – Understanding your corporate philosophy in terms of cost sharing with employees, which ultimately affects the bottom line.
-
Engagement Strategy – A successful benefit platform is one that educates and empowers the employees. To reach this goal, you should create a positive experience for employees.
-
Wellness and Productivity Strategy – We have heard the adage, “healthy employees equal happy and productive employees.” How are you going to achieve a culture that promotes happy and productive employees? What measurements are necessary to see the return on this investment?
Creating a health strategy is often as simple as aligning the programs you currently offer and developing an overall strategy. For some employers, that strategy might focus on preventive care; for others, the focus might be consumer education. Regardless, all aspects of your benefit and wellness plans should support your strategic direction.
We look forward to working with you to develop your company’s health strategy over the coming weeks. As always, feel free to reach out to me, your Advisor or Account Executive if you have any questions or concerns.
Here’s to health.
