Anthem Updates - Paper EOBs and Enhanced EAP Offerings

As we begin a new year, we want to bring two issues to your attention:

  1. $0 EOBs no longer mailed to homes
  2. Enhanced EAP website offerings
No More Paper EOBs for $0 Liability Claims 

Members will no longer receive a paper explanation of benefits form (EOB) in the mail if they have zero liability for their claim. This process was initiated in June 2010 and completed in November.

Members can access their EOBs by logging into the Anthem website and selecting Plans & Benefits. If members have any issues with the website, they can contact Customer Service using the phone number listed on their ID card. This initiative was implemented to improve member communications and reduce the negative environmental impact.

Please note:

  • For PPO plans, if the member liability is $0 after a copay is collected, there will not be an EOB mailed.  
  • For high-deductible plans, this $0 claim suppression will occur once no funds are available in the subscriber's HRA, HIA or HIA Plus account.

Enhanced EAP Website Offerings

There are some exciting updates regarding the Anthem EAP for 2011. As you know, the EAP provides a variety of work/life services, including child and elder care information, access to legal and financial consultations, and self assessment tools, all focused on helping individuals balance the demands of work and home. Starting January 1st, the work/life services on the website will be completely refreshed. You will find a brand new look and feel with a variety of enhanced tools and resources. The website will include:

  • A new home page featuring updated themes each month
  • More than 5,000 regularly updated articles
  • Enhanced self-search functionality with increased interactivity

There is no change to the way the EAP website is accessed. If you are a current EAP customer, simply log on to the site in January to begin utilizing the new features and tools. No new passwords are required.
