Anthem Imaging Shopper Results and Address Corrections

02/18/2011
We have two Anthem updates we wanted to share with you today:
  1. Imaging Shopper Pilot Program Preliminary Results
  2. Member Address Correction Project

Imaging Shopper Pilot Program Preliminary Results

In December, Anthem launched a pilot program called Imaging Shopper in the Indianapolis metropolitan area. When imaging services are ordered, a Health Outreach Specialist from Anthem contacts the member and confirms what facility they will be using, suggesting less expensive options if the member is agreeable. During the month of December, there were 184 members that were redirected, saving an average of $1,134 per case. Total savings was $208,643.

In addition, three hospital systems have expressed an interest in lowering their fees for MRIs and CT scans. Due to its success, the program is under consideration for other counties in Indiana.

Member Address Correction Project

Starting February 19, Anthem will begin mailing letters to employers if 1) they have an employee who has filed an address change with the USPS, and 2) Anthem has mailed something to the customer's old address recently. These letters to employers will include a list of employees whose addresses we need to have updated in their enrollment files.

Anthem has prepared a helpful FAQ that further explains the process. By not sharing address changes with employers, employees will likely delay or miss important information. This could include things like W-2s, EOBs, refund checks or important plan updates.

If you have any questions about the Imaging Shopper program or the Member Address Correction project, please contact your Account Executive.
