A Culture of Giving Back

This time of year, our office is abuzz with activity. There are many early mornings and trips to Starbucks! It’s almost a routine to put your blinders on and focus on the tasks at hand.

But a few weeks ago, several team members and I took our Saturday to go “Over the Edge” for Special Olympics Indiana. Special Olympics holds this annual event to raise money and awareness for their organization. Because of our generous employees, customers, and partners, we were able to raise more than $10,000 through this event alone.

It would have been easier for our team members to say no – they didn’t want to give up a Saturday to spend time with their coworkers (and yours truly!). But they gave up their time and others opened their checkbooks to give. It’s always impressive to me when our team goes above and beyond for the greater good and it’s something I’m always learning from.

We’ve built a culture of giving back here at FirstPerson. It’s who we are and it’s what we do. Some of it has been purposeful, like our matching policy and paid volunteering opportunities. But some of it has also been a little bit of luck – our team is made up of exceptionally caring people.

A culture of giving back benefits our community and our business. Take a few minutes to give back – you’ll be glad you did.
