Employee participation is often a struggle for companies sponsoring wellness programs. Incentives can be a positive option to gain support; the key is to recognize what employees value most.
Is it time off from work to be with family? Offer vacation days for participation. Is competition a driving factor for your employees? Motivate them with competition-based incentives. Being creative and purposeful when choosing incentive plans can not only support healthy habits, but also improve productivity - now that makes financial sense!

FirstPerson aims to lead by example, especially when it comes to health and wellness. We've been hosting new, innovative wellness events, but we've also gone back to the basics.
This quarter we've launched a walking program-complete with pedometers and a contest. We have 89% participation, and, in only 3 weeks, 31 employees have walked almost 5 million steps (approximately 2,500 miles)! Employees are enjoying the friendly competition and peeking at each others' pedometers; together, we're taking steps in the right direction.
